Mass Casualty Training - Bus Crash

On Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at 6:30 p.m., unsuspecting fire and police officers responded to a report of a school bus accident.  The responding personnel arrived at Lexington Avenue and Mendota Heights Road to find a school bus rolled over with 40-50 victims.

The exercise was the idea of Mendota Heights Firefighter Hayley Heidelberg who is in the EMT Program at Inver Hills Community College.  Hayley pitched the idea to Fire Department Training Officer Dave Dreelan who agreed it was a good idea, and began setting up and preparing for the event.

Agencies that participated in the training:

  • Mendota Heights Fire Department, Inver Grove Heights Fire Department, Eagan Fire Department (South Metro Fire Department provided backup in case of a real call)
  • HealthEast Ambulance
  • North Memorial Helicopter
  • Inver Hills Community College instructors and students
