Engine 10 is a 1987 LN9000 Pumper built by Custom Fire Apparatus. It has a 6 cylinder diesel engine and an automatic transmission. The pump can flow 1250 gallons per minute - built by Waterous. It also carries 500 gallons of water, an Onan Generator, almost 2200 feet of host, ground ladders, air packs, and numerous tools. The body of the truck is built of stainless steel construction, designed to last 25 years. This is the first truck out on all fire calls.
Ladder 10 Ladder 10 is a 1997 General Safety 65' Telesquirt. The chassis is a Freightliner FLD120SD-crew cab. A Detroit Diesel engine delivers 430 horsepower to an Allison Automatic Transmission. On board is a 500 gallon water tank and a 2 stage-1500 gallon per minute Waterous pump teamed with an automatic pressure gauge, which provides water to the firefighters. A hydraulic ladder rack and a 7500 watt generator are the other major components on the fire engine. The 65 foot telescoping boom, built by Snorkel, enables it to reach 2nd and 3rd floor areas of buildings for rescue and fire attack. It is the third truck out on structure fire calls. This is the biggest truck we have. SQURT 10 Originally a 1979 pumper, this truck was refurbished in 1994 by adding the 55' Squirt from an older pumper and replacing the cab and body with a new custom designed stainless steel body. After many hours of work by the fire department truck committee and several months in production at Custom Fire Apparatus in Osceola Wisconsin, Mendota Heights took delivery of a "Like New" truck for half the price of a new fire engine. Tools included are air bags, Hurst tool (Jaws of life), emergency medical equipment, 2 SCBA's, and an on board computer that provides pre-plan information on all businesses in the area. ATV 10 ATV 10 is an ATV purchased in 2001 with a $30,000 donation from Robert and Maureen Vince. The all terrain vehicle is equipped with a firefighting tank and trailer. This vehicle will improve firefighter safety as well as give us the capability to extinguish a wildfire quicker - with better access. It will also give us the ability to conduct rescue operations in boggy areas such as the Friendly Hills Marsh Park, Dodge Nature Center and the Gun Club Lake area. Boat 10 The Fire Department replaced its 50-year-old boat and motor with a new Zodiak boat and motor. This replacement was not completed until the department conducted a review to determine whether or not we should stay in the water rescue business. The Fire Department has been providing water rescue services on bodies of waters since its inception in 1947. But with the need to replace equipment, it was a good opportunity to evaluate the services that we provide. The review included the input and the energy of Council Member Jack Vitelli, who was a real asset in conducting this review. Without going deeply into the review process, it was determined that the Fire Department is an integral part of any water rescue activity that may occur. The local fire department is the closest, quickest and most likely to be called response agency when it comes to dealing with water. The fact that the fire department has responded to water rescue events in the past, and the expansion of fishing opportunities and the aeration system on Rogers Lake, demonstrated there is a need. "Old Jimmy" Old Jimmy is a 1947 GMC Pumper. It was the first pumper the Fire Department had. It was placed out of service in 1967, but still goes to local parades and fire musters. The Mendota Heights Fire Department is a 36 member volunteer organization. We proudly provide fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the communities of Mendota Heights, Lilydale, Sunfish Lake and Mendota. Chief 2 Chief 2 is a 1996 Chevro
